Nissan Altima

Overview
PURE EXHILARATION AT EVERY TURN.

Push the button to go up. Move to a higher level, motivated by a 270 HP V6, raised even further by the instant response of a groundbreaking Xtronic CVT™ transmission. Find it all at your fingertips: A push-button ignition, an available touch-screen navigation system with voice activation, a world of entertainment that's a scroll and click away. Now turn the wheel to feel your pulse accelerate. And enjoy a view that will take your breath away. The Nissan Altima.

Exterior
    Sporty Design
The Nissan Altima throws conformity out of the window with underbody air diffusers to reduce lift and helps add stability at higher speeds. And shaved fender lines to reduce wind noise. The way we see it, there is status quo, and then, there’s the Nissan Altima.

    Bold Styling
Altima’s distinctive, aggressive exterior design defies convention once again. Its sweeping 3-dimensional character lines, dual exhaust with single chrome-tip finishers, and jet fighter-inspired taillights make it a standout in the sea of sedans.

    Cab Forward
Altima’s platform allows for a true "cab forward" design with improved handling. So the exterior form accurately communicates the generous cabin space, while creating a powerful forward-moving silhouette.

Power sliding door…and wide open.   Automatic Headlights
Altima’s distinctive headlights contribute to the strong performance-oriented styling. The "see-through" effect confidently reveals the technology of the car while they turn on and off automatically.

  Key Fob   Taillights
It’s not shallow to love the Sedan for its looks. The dramatic rear styling is framed on each side by iconic jet fighter-inspired taillights that are both sleek and visible.

    Dual Exhaust
Standard dual exhaust with single chrome tip finishers add to Altima’s performance-oriented personality. Take it for a ride, and you’ll find a system with a deep rich rumble that leaves a calling card as unmistakable as the Altima itself.

    Alloy Wheels
Altima’s aggressive stance comes by virtue of a wide track and standard 16” wheels (16” Aluminum-alloy on the 2.5 S with Convenience Package or SL Package). The 3.5 SE takes things a step further with 17” 5-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels.

Interior

Sleek Interior
Before you drive off, pause a moment to take in the rich materials, details like elegant metallic trim, the feel of the buttons and switches, even subtle things like the flowing contour line above the centre vents. Think of it as quality time.

    Fine Vision Gauges
The striking design of Altima’s Fine Vision gauges not only depicts performance, style and accuracy, it also makes for a quick read. The standard LCD Information Centre, located in the middle gauge, calculates your driving time, average speed, distance to empty, average fuel economy, and tells you the outside temperature.

Steering-wheel-mounted controls
Focus on the road and keep things fingertip-close. With steering-wheel-mounted controls for the cruise control and available controls for the audio system*, you can change CD tracks, turn the volume up and down, surf your radio presets, check the distance to empty, and more -all with your hands responsibly where they belong.

*Available on the 2.5 S with Convenience Package, 2.5 SL Package or Altima 3.5 SE

    Adjustable Driver’s Seat1
In the midst of all that space inside the Altima cabin, you can still find a very personal fit when you get in the driver's seat. After all, it adjusts many different ways to put you in just the right position. The adjustments are 6-way manual on the 2.5 S and 3.5 S; an 8-way power driver's seat is available on the 2.5 S with Convenience Package or 2.5 SL Package and standard on the 3.5 SE.

Heated Front Seats
Altima’s available heated front seats let you and your passenger crank the heat, low or high, for a warm and comfortable ride through the cold winter months. Standard on 3.5 S and 3.5 SE and available on the 2.5 S with Convenience Package or 2.5 SL Package,

Intelligent Key
So smart, it works without even touching it. Ultimate convenience is yours with Altima’s standard Intelligent Key. As you approach, your Altima recognizes your Intelligent Key’s unique signal and allows you to tap a button on the door handle or trunk to unlock them. A clever multitasker, the Intelligent Key can also function as a traditional keyless entry system, with large, easy-to-use buttons mounted on the fob.

  Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone System   Push-button Ignition
The key is to use your finger. Now you don’t need your key to start the car. Well, you need it. You just don’t need it in the ignition. All you have to do is push the button on the dash. It’ll signal the Intelligent Key in your pocket or purse, then just start the car, and you’re good to go.

Touch-screen Nissan Navigation System
Part Sherpa. Part techno-geek. Combine the best traits of a trusted guide with a super-size intellect and you have Nissan’s DVD Navigation System1. Use the touch-screen or enjoy hands-free voice recognition. You’ll even find even more brilliance in the navigations system’s details.  Like the ability to adjust the angle of the 3-D Birdview™ map to your liking.  Getting directions when you only have an intersection or just a business phone number.  There’s even a readout when playing MP3/WMA-encoded CDs that gives you an iPOD®2-style playlist of what songs are coming up.  Also, an available RearView Monitor3 helps when you are backing up.  How smart can you get?

Driving Dynamics
  An Award-winning Engine

270 HP 3.5-litre V6 Engine
Emphasis on first. Named 13 times as one of the “10 Best Engines” by WardAuto.com1 Automotive Group, Altima’s 270 HP2 VQ 3.5-litre V6 features numerous refinements to ensure its legendary status. Its advanced valve timing control system now works over a wider rpm range for greater low-end torque and a relentless rush to the redline. A 6-point engine-mounting system reduces vibration. It even sounds better, thanks to acoustic tuning that limits unwanted mechanical noise, while letting the pure, exhilarating sound of power come through.

1WardsAuto.com. January 2007.
2270HP available on the 3.5 S and 3.5 SE

  Standard Auto Transmission

175 HP 2.5-litre 4-cylinder Engine
Emphasis on class. Altima’s efficient 2.5-litre 4-cylinder gives you V6 levels of refinement.  You’ll find an engine-mount system and a balance shaft to reduce vibrations.  With 175 HP and 180 lb-ft of torque, performance is even more responsive, while microfinishing techniques make sure things are silky throughout the rev range. And thanks to a high-flow dual-exhaust system, being smooth never sounded better.

6-speed Manual Transmission
Manual dexterity. Altima’s flexible power band and great sound make running up through the gears a true visceral thrill. Six speeds give you better control than five, and tantalizing choices from a grin-inducing first gear takeoff all the way up to a long-legged top gear for quiet, economical cruising. On V6 models, you’ll find triple-cone synchros (most cars have only two) for ultra-smooth shifts, and a close-ratio transmission geared to maximize the engine’s power by reducing rpm drop between gears. The result is serious performance that’s also incredibly fun.

Xtronic CVT™ with Manual Mode
Say goodbye to gears with Altima’s revolutionary Xtronic CVT™ (Continuously Variable Transmission)*. With nearly infinite variable ratios, CVT custom-tailors the engine’s response to meet your demands, giving you a seamless flow of power. Unlike conventional automatic transmissions that experience gear hunting or shift shock, when you press on the accelerator, the CVT will maintain engine speed so you’re always in the sweetest part of the power band. To take full advantage of the extra power, V6 models feature a sport-tuned CVT for even quicker response.

*Xtronic CVT™ is standard on 3.5 S and is available on the 2.5 S and the 3.5 SE.

Continuously Variable Valve Timing and Variable Intake System
Altima's Continuously Variable Valve Timing precisely modulates when intake valves open and close, factoring in throttle position, vehicle speed and engine rpm. The result is outstanding thrust off the line and deep reserves of passing power. The Variable Intake System similarly lets the engine "breathe" differently in changing conditions. Again, there's plenty of thrust in the low range; then as speeds rise, a second, shorter path opens in the manifold, allowing more air-flow to the engine.

    Electronic Drive-by-wire Throttle
A standard sensor on the gas pedal transmits throttle position to the engine electronically, providing on-demand torque control for smoother shifting.

Suspension
Independent thinking. Many sport sedans feature independent suspensions. But Altima takes the extra step, and employs a 350Z-inspired multi-link design for quick response, while still providing a supple ride. By separating the springs and shocks, friction is reduced, allowing the components to respond to the road without compromise.

Handling
Let’s torque – or not. Traditional front-wheel drive layouts offer many advantages, including excellent traction. But on a high-powered vehicle, you might notice what is called “torque steer” – the tendency of the steering to pull to one side under acceleration. By employing a rigid platform, lowering the engine slightly, and using specially designed suspension components, torque steer in Altima is virtually nonexistent, letting you enjoy both power and handling as they were meant to be.

    Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
In addition to standard 4-wheel disc brakes, a standard Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) helps you maintain steering control in an emergency stop. It works by pumping the brakes faster than humanly possible to help keep the wheels from locking up.

    Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD)
Altima's ABS features Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) constantly monitors weight distribution and adjust rear brake force for balanced braking power – even adjusting as fuel is used up.

    Speed-Sensitive Steering
Altima’s vehicle speed-sensitive power steering constantly adjusts to give you the ideal amount of power assistance. More boost at lower speeds makes parking and manoeuvering easier, while less boost at higher speeds gives a secure, confident feel.

    Traction Control System (TCS)
All the power in the world is useless if you can’t get any grip. That’s why V6 models feature standard TCS electronic traction control that can reduce throttle and/or upshift the transmission when it senses a front wheel slipping or spinning. And since it operates at all speeds, you get added confidence in a variety of driving situations.

Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)*
Because things can change from grip to slip in the blink of an eye, Altima’s available advanced VDC continuously monitors your steering and braking actions and compares them to the actual vehicle path. Is it senses the onset of plowing (understeer) or fishtailing (oversteer), the VDC system brakes individual wheels and/or reduces power to help you on your steered course.

*Vehicle Dynamic Control is available on the 3.5 SE with Leather Package. VDC cannot prevent accidents due to abrupt steering, carelessness, or dangerous driving techniques, or any other reason. Always drive safely.

Safety

Nissan Advanced Airbag System (AABS)
The Nissan Advanced Airbag System (AABS)* includes dual-stage supplemental front airbags with seat belt sensors and an occupant-classification sensor. The inflation rate of these dual-stage airbags adjusts depending on crash severity and seat belt usage. If the front passenger seat is empty, a sensor will deactivate the airbag.

*Airbags are only a supplemental restraint system; always wear your seat belt. Even with the occupant-classification sensor, rear-facing child restraints should not be placed in the front passenger’s seat. Also, in addition to any other requirement of applicable law, all children 12 and under should ride in the rear seat properly secured in child restraints, booster seats, or seat belts according to their size. Airbags will only inflate in certain accidents; see your owner’s manual for more details. Inflated airbags shown for illustration purposes only. Actual airbags deflate after deployment.

Side-impact Airbags
Standard side-impact supplemental airbags* are built into the front seats, so they move with you. While standard roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental airbags help provide head protection for front and rear-seat outboard occupants.

Active front-seat head restraints
Active front-seat head restraints move up and forward during a rear-end collision, helping reduce the chances of whiplash-type injuries to front-seat passengers.

LATCH System
Yet another way we’re working to help keep children safe. The Altima LATCH System (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) lets you secure LATCH-compatible child restraints in the rear seat without having to use seat belts or a locking clip.

Snug Kids®
Another Nissan first and only. U.S. NHTSA-certified ‘Child Passenger Safety’ technicians have dedicated over 1000 hours to checking over 4000 child seat installations in Nissans. The result: Not just the first, but also the only one in the industry, The Snug Kids® Child Safety Seat Fit Guide. This guide lists child seats that fit the rear seats of Nissan vehicles, as well as offers invaluable tips on correct installation.

Nissan Safety Shield
The Nissan Safety Shield is our comprehensive approach to safety. It includes rigorous crash testing, over 50 standard safety features on every vehicle, available advanced technologies, and child-safety programs like Snug Kids®. In Altima, six standard airbags, active head restraints, and an available RearView Monitor are just a few examples of our safety philosophy in action.

    Anti-theft System
The standard Anti-theft System flashes the headlights and sounds the horn if there's any attempt to open the doors or hood without a key, or remove key cylinders. You can also push the panic button on the intelligent key to sound the alarm for 20 seconds.

    Zone Body Construction
Zone Body construction incorporates a high-intensity cabin structure with crossmembers and reinforcements. Front and rear crumple zones help absorb impact energy before it reaches the passenger compartment. Energy-absorbing steering column compresses during certain frontal impacts to help reduce the likelihood of injury.
