Intelligent Key
So smart, it works without even touching it. Ultimate convenience is yours with Altima’s standard Intelligent Key. As you approach, your Altima recognizes your Intelligent Key’s unique signal and allows you to tap a button on the door handle or trunk to unlock them. A clever multitasker, the Intelligent Key can also function as a traditional keyless entry system, with large, easy-to-use buttons mounted on the fob.

Touch-screen Nissan Navigation System
Part Sherpa. Part techno-geek. Combine the best traits of a trusted guide with a super-size intellect and you have Nissan’s DVD Navigation System¹. Use the touch-screen or enjoy hands-free voice recognition. You’ll even find even more brilliance in the navigations system’s details.  Like the ability to adjust the angle of the 3-D Birdview™ map to your liking.  Getting directions when you only have an intersection or just a business phone number.  There’s even a readout when playing MP3/WMA-encoded CDs that gives you an iPOD®²-style playlist of what songs are coming up.  Also, an available RearView Monitor³ helps when you are backing up.  How smart can you get?

Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone system
Hands off. Altima’s available Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone System¹ teams up with your Bluetooth-enabled cell phone for advanced communication. Make or receive calls with a touch of a button on the steering wheel. Use the memo pad function to record voice messages for playback later. The system will even mute the audio system when you’re on the phone, and then return it to the previous setting when you hang up.

175 HP 2.5-litre 4-cylinder Engine
Emphasis on class. Altima’s efficient 2.5-litre 4-cylinder gives you V6 levels of refinement.  You’ll find an engine-mount system and a balance shaft to reduce vibrations.  With 175 HP and 180 lb-ft of torque, performance is even more responsive, while microfinishing techniques make sure things are silky throughout the rev range. And thanks to a high-flow dual-exhaust system, being smooth never sounded better.

6-speed Manual Transmission
Manual dexterity. Altima’s flexible power band and great sound make running up through the gears a true visceral thrill. Six speeds give you better control than five, and tantalizing choices from a grin-inducing first gear takeoff all the way up to a long-legged top gear for quiet, economical cruising. On V6 models, you’ll find triple-cone synchros (most cars have only two) for ultra-smooth shifts, and a close-ratio transmission geared to maximize the engine’s power by reducing rpm drop between gears. The result is serious performance that’s also incredibly fun.

Xtronic CVT™ with Manual Mode
Say goodbye to gears with Altima’s revolutionary Xtronic CVT™ (Continuously Variable Transmission)*. With nearly infinite variable ratios, CVT custom-tailors the engine’s response to meet your demands, giving you a seamless flow of power. Unlike conventional automatic transmissions that experience gear hunting or shift shock, when you press on the accelerator, the CVT will maintain engine speed so you’re always in the sweetest part of the power band. To take full advantage of the extra power, V6 models feature a sport-tuned CVT for even quicker response.

Continuously Variable Valve Timing and Variable Intake System
Altima's Continuously Variable Valve Timing precisely modulates when intake valves open and close, factoring in throttle position, vehicle speed and engine rpm. The result is outstanding thrust off the line and deep reserves of passing power. The Variable Intake System similarly lets the engine "breathe" differently in changing conditions. Again, there's plenty of thrust in the low range; then as speeds rise, a second, shorter path opens in the manifold, allowing more air-flow to the engine.

Suspension
Independent thinking. Many sport sedans feature independent suspensions. But Altima takes the extra step, and employs a 350Z-inspired multi-link design for quick response, while still providing a supple ride. By separating the springs and shocks, friction is reduced, allowing the components to respond to the road without compromise.

Handling
Let’s torque – or not. Traditional front-wheel drive layouts offer many advantages, including excellent traction. But on a high-powered vehicle, you might notice what is called “torque steer” – the tendency of the steering to pull to one side under acceleration. By employing a rigid platform, lowering the engine slightly, and using specially designed suspension components, torque steer in Altima is virtually nonexistent, letting you enjoy both power and handling as they were meant to be.

Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)*
Because things can change from grip to slip in the blink of an eye, Altima’s available advanced VDC continuously monitors your steering and braking actions and compares them to the actual vehicle path. Is it senses the onset of plowing (understeer) or fishtailing (oversteer), the VDC system brakes individual wheels and/or reduces power to help you on your steered course.

*Vehicle Dynamic Control is available on the 3.5 SE with Leather Package. VDC cannot prevent accidents due to abrupt steering, carelessness, or dangerous driving techniques, or any other reason. Always drive safely.

Nissan Advanced Airbag System (AABS)
The Nissan Advanced Airbag System (AABS)* includes dual-stage supplemental front airbags with seat belt sensors and an occupant-classification sensor. The inflation rate of these dual-stage airbags adjusts depending on crash severity and seat belt usage. If the front passenger seat is empty, a sensor will deactivate the airbag.

*Airbags are only a supplemental restraint system; always wear your seat belt. Even with the occupant-classification sensor, rear-facing child restraints should not be placed in the front passenger’s seat. Also, in addition to any other requirement of applicable law, all children 12 and under should ride in the rear seat properly secured in child restraints, booster seats, or seat belts according to their size. Side-impact Airbags
Standard side-impact supplemental airbags* are built into the front seats, so they move with you. While standard roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental airbags help provide head protection for front and rear-seat outboard occupants.

Active front-seat head restraints
Active front-seat head restraints move up and forward during a rear-end collision, helping reduce the chances of whiplash-type injuries to front-seat passengers.

LATCH System
Yet another way we’re working to help keep children safe. The Altima LATCH System (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) lets you secure LATCH-compatible child restraints in the rear seat without having to use seat belts or a locking clip.

Another Nissan first and only. U.S. NHTSA-certified ‘Child Passenger Safety’ technicians have dedicated over 1000 hours to checking over 4000 child seat installations in Nissans. The result: Not just the first, but also the only one in the industry, The Snug Kids® Child Safety Seat Fit Guide.
